Step 1. Doctor's Visit

The patient will need to schedule a face-to-face mobility evaluation visit with you so you can determine if they are in medical need of a power chair. During this visit, you must evaluate your patient's mobility needs based upon the Medicare Coverage Criteria to determine if your patient’s quality of life would improve by using a power chair or scooter.

At this time you will need to determine the following:

  • Does the patient have difficulty ambulating?
  • Is the patient at risk of falling and cannot use a cane or walker to rely on for balance?
  • Is the patient unable to propel him or herself in a manual wheelchair?
  • What are the patient’s physical limitations and weaknesses?
  • How have the patient’s medical circumstances progressed to the point that he/she needs a power chair?
  • Does the patient have the physical and mental ability to operate a power chair?

Step 2. Begin Insurance Paperwork

A u-Scoot Case Manager will provide you with the necessary documentation that we will submit to your patient’s insurance company (Medicare, Commercial Insurance or Worker’s Comp).

Step 3. Delivery & Training

We will deliver the appropriate power mobility equipment directly to your patient’s home – once approved. At this time, a u-Scoot Certified Installer will adjust your patient’s power chair for a more comfortable and supportive fit. Then, our Certified Installer will walk your patient through in-depth training on how to use their new power chair safely.
